Documents required to study in Ireland

Some common documents that international students typically need when applying for a course in the Ireland:

  • Copies of marksheets of Std X, XII and Semester marksheets / Transcripts of the Bachelors degree.
  • 2 academic Reference letters from professors. One reference in case of UG application.
  • If you have work experience, then at least one work recommendation from the employer who can review your professional abilities.
  • Statement of Purpose.
  • Curriculum Vitae/Resume.
  • Photocopied score cards of TOEFL / IELTS / PTE if available / required.
  • Others (certificates/achievements at the State and National Level and extra curricular activities).

Processes for gaining entry to study in Ireland

The application process typically involves the following steps: Research: Find out about the college and the program you wish to apply for.

College Application: Applicants can apply directly to the university or use an application portal like the Central Applications Office for certain undergraduate courses.

Required Documents: This usually includes a transcript, a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, and proof of English proficiency, which can be demonstrated through tests like IELTS or TOEFL.

Admission Decision: Wait for the university to review your application and send you an offer letter.

English language for study purposes in Ireland

Most Irish universities require non-native English speakers to provide proof of English proficiency. Commonly accepted tests include: Generally, a score of at least 6.0 to 6.5  in IELTS is expected. Scores typically range significantly above 90 in TOEFL. Different universities may have varying specifications regarding language requirements.

Cost of Living

Tuition fees can vary depending on the institution and the type of course. For international students, the fees for undergraduate or postgraduate programs are generally as follows: MSc/MPhil: €10,000 to €25,000 per year. Master’s level: €10,000 to €35,000 annually. Additionally, living expenses such as rent, food, transportation, and other necessities typically range from €7,000 to €12,000 per year, depending on lifestyle and location.

Part Time work during Study

International students in Ireland are permitted to work part-time while studying. With a student visa, students can work: Up to 20 hours per week during course period. Up to 40 hours a week during holidays. This allows students to gain work experience while earning some income.

Post-study work opportunities

Ireland offers excellent post-study work opportunities for international students. After graduation, students can apply for the Third Level Graduate Scheme, which allows them to stay in Ireland and work: For 12 months if they have an undergraduate degree. For 24 months if they have a postgraduate qualification. This provides graduates with valuable work experience in Ireland and the possibility of securing permanent employment.
